Terms of use
Last updated: 1 August 2026
About these terms
These terms govern your use of the StartupDocs website and product, operated by StartupDocs ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the product you agree to these terms.
Not legal advice
Nothing StartupDocs produces is legal advice, and StartupDocs is not a law firm. Our templates are professionally drafted starting points, and our compliance checks are automated; neither is legal advice or a substitute for a qualified lawyer. For anything unusual or high-value, have a solicitor review the final document. Our templates are drafted for England & Wales.
Your account
You sign in with your email using a one-time code, so keeping access to your email inbox secure is how you keep your account secure. Accounts created in the founding member window are tagged as such. How we handle your details is covered by our privacy policy. If you joined the earlier waitlist, that registered interest only and did not create an account.
Your documents
Your documents are yours. You keep all rights in the content you create, import, or generate on StartupDocs. You grant us only the limited permission needed to store, process, and display your documents so we can provide the product to you — including sending them to the AI providers described in our privacy policy to produce the edits and checks you request. You are responsible for the content of your documents and for having the right to upload anything you upload. You can export your documents at any time, and if you cancel you can export them in full before your access ends.
Plans, trials, and billing
Paid plans start with a 7-day free trial. A payment card is required to start a trial, but you are not charged if you cancel before the trial ends. If you do not cancel, your card is charged at the end of the trial and then each billing period (monthly or annually) until you cancel. Prices are shown on the pricing page and in the app, in pounds sterling. When you cancel, cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for, and you keep access until then. The Team plan has a minimum of two seats. Payments are handled by our payment processor, Stripe.
The 30-day guarantee
Every first subscription carries a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you do not have the documents you came for, or you are unhappy with StartupDocs for any reason, email [email protected] from your account email within 30 days of your first payment and we will refund everything you have paid for the subscription, in full, to the payment method you paid with. The guarantee applies to your first subscription and once per customer; it does not apply to a later subscription started after a refund. Documents you have exported remain yours after a refund. This guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights, which it does not affect.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- interfere with or disrupt the product or the systems behind it,
- submit email addresses you do not control,
- scrape or harvest data by automated means beyond the features we provide,
- upload content you do not have the right to upload, or
- use StartupDocs for anything unlawful.
Intellectual property
StartupDocs and its content, including the StartupDocs name, wordmark, design, and copy, belong to us or our licensors. Template content we provide is licensed to you to use in your own documents; you may not resell or redistribute our templates as a competing template library. This does not affect your ownership of the documents you produce.
Liability
StartupDocs is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. Because our templates and checks are automated and are not legal advice, we do not warrant that any document produced with StartupDocs is legally compliant, complete, or fit for a particular purpose; that judgement remains yours and your lawyer's. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the product. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Continuing to use StartupDocs after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that consumers keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country they live in. Questions about these terms: [email protected].
